History of Aluminum Alloys:


Aluminum alloys have only a history of nearly 100 years, but they have developed rapidly. Initially, they were mainly associated with the aviation industry, and the range of uses has been expanding, with their production ranking second after steel and first among non-ferrous materials.
In 1908, Alcoa invented electrical aluminum alloy 1050 and made steel-core aluminum strand, pioneering high-voltage long-distance power transmission.
In 1915, Alcoa invented Alloy 2017 and in 1933, Alloy 2024, which enabled the rapid expansion of the application of aluminum in aircraft. In 1933 Alcoa invented 6061 alloy, and then created the extruder quenching process, which significantly expanded the application of extruded profiles.
In 1943, Alcoa invented 6063 alloy and 7075 alloy, creating a new era of high-strength aluminum alloys.
In 1965, Alcoa also invented A356 casting aluminum alloy, which is the classic casting aluminum alloy.
With the in-depth research on aluminum alloy materials, the use of high-strength aluminum alloys (2000 and 7000 series) in commercial aircraft has reached more than 80% of their structural mass due to their excellent comprehensive performance, thus gaining the general attention of the global aviation industry. Aluminum alloys are gradually being used in construction materials, military, and science and technology.

Aluminum Alloy Model:


1060: 1060 is ordinary industrial pure aluminum, containing not less than 99.60% aluminum, which is characterized by low strength, and work hardening is the only way to strengthen. Good hot and cold working performance, high thermal and electrical conductivity, excellent corrosion resistance. It is widely used in industrial equipment requiring good forming properties, corrosion resistance, and weldability, and can also be used as an electrical conductor material.


2024: 2024 alloy composition and organization and 2A12 alloy the same, only 2124 alloy impurities Fe, Si content limit lower. 2024 alloy sheet, thick plate and profile has been successfully used in the manufacture of aircraft, rocket skin, cabin section, the overall fuel tank wall plate, wing sorghum, etc.


5052: 5052 alloy has a magnesium content of 2.5%, which is a lower magnesium content in the aluminum-magnesium system of rust-proof aluminum. Widely used in the manufacture of aircraft fuel and fuel pipes and fuel tanks, various ships and transportation in the parts, sheet metal products, meters, street lamp bracket, rivets and wire, etc.


6061: 6061 alloy is an Al-Mg-Si system heat treatable reinforced aluminum alloy, which can be processed into plates, tubes, bars, shapes, wire and forgings. It is widely used in construction profiles, large structural parts requiring good corrosion resistance, structural parts for trucks, ships, railway vehicles, conduits, homes, etc.


6063: 6063 alloy is Al-Mg-Si system heat-treatable reinforced aluminum alloy, which can be extruded into bars, profiles and pipes. It is widely used in construction structural materials and decorative materials, such as door frames, window frames, wall panels, cargo containers, furniture, elevators, and decorative components of different colors for aircraft, ships, light industry sectors, buildings, etc.


7075: 7075 alloy is Al-Zn-Mg-Cu system super-hard aluminum, which is characterized by good plasticity after solid solution treatment and very obvious heat treatment strengthening. It can be processed into plates (clad aluminum and non-clad aluminum), tubes, profiles, bars and forgings. It is mainly used for aircraft structural parts and other high strength corrosion resistant structural parts.
